The year of the Monkey is coming to a close and I don't necessarily keep up with my zodiac at all but I feel that 2016 was a bad year for a lot of people. It was seen as the year of the Reaper.
However, we have all made it out alive! There was even a petition for Betty White to make it through 2016. The same problems seems to plague everyone on January 1st, it is when everyone sets the promises they are going to break this year, with only 8% of people actually making their resolutions every year. I have devised a plan for myself this year that can ensure my absolute success and allow me to set a more reasonable goal.
1. Old Me: "I'm Getting Jacked this Year, Gym 5-6 Times a Week". New Me: "I'm going to make sure I do a Physical Activity at Least Twice a Week"-
The goal is to make it obtainable for me to stick to a plan. The moment I miss my goal of 5 workouts a week I feel like "welp, whats another day off, and another day off". This behavior always seems to spiral for the worse.
2. Old Me: "I'm getting on a Diet and I'm sticking to it!" New Me: "I'm cutting out chocolate, cakes, ice cream, candy, sweets, treats, chips, except that 1 night I want to chill a week"
Sometimes you just don't have the ingredients to stick to those diets, sometimes you are just exhausted and would rather not and other times is it any business of yours if I classify chocolate covered almonds as supper........ and maybe breakfast. Food is the hardest part I find, with people saying "eat 6-8 small meals a day" to other cleanse diets being like "eat once a day, and this rare fruit from the southern mountains of the Himalayas", it's no wonder people have a hard time sticking to a diet. A good rule of thumb is that if it comes in some fancy packaging, it's likely not that good for you. This is obtainable.
3. Old Me: "I'm going to read more" New Me: "I'm reading at least 1 book everyone month"
As important as it is to take care of your body it is just as important to take care of your mind. This includes reading, the world of books is a fabulous world and you would be surprised to see all the information out there that isn't on Netflix. I typically read every single night but sometimes that just doesn't happen, so I have devised a goal of a book a month and usually the books I read are typically business books, self help books, spiritual books or (auto)biographies, it will be a year of intellectual growth as well!
4. Old Me: "I'm Going to Spend more Time with my Family" New Me: "Sunday's are Family Day, I will book off Phonecation time"
This is the hardest one for me for sure, it is extremely hard to not keep working all day long everyday as it surrounds my life. The world of business is just too frantic, too many things change and sometimes it is the relentless hours that keep you in business........... or divorced. It is about trying to find that balance that works, no one every takes it offensively when you say you are with your family and you will have to call them back at a later time. This is all about work/balance.
5. Old Me: "I'm Going to Try New Things" New Me: "Each month I will do something I have not done before or I will acquire a new skill"
There are tons of challenges a person can do to see what they are capable of or perhaps to learn a new skill that will in turn sharpen older ones. If a person is to say build something each month or challenge themselves in some way that seems like a reasonable goal that allows a person to stay on track. I have all kinds of ideas, supplement company, clothing company, home building, and all sorts of things that will allow me to learn a lot of practical skills that I can use. Sometimes the skills take a long time to learn but persistence is key.
Have an Amazing 2017
